Part Three: Travel
- Menorca's road system is of comparable stupidity to the M5 bus lane. It consists of one long main road (with lots of roundabouts), stretching from the capital to the main town. A seemingly infinite number of minor roads and dirt tracks head away from the main road. There are no coastal roads. This means that to get from one town to the next, you must go half way across the island along a narrow dirt track to the main road, travel along it for a couple of miles, and then turn off along a similar dirt track until you are back almost where you started.
- Like Germans, "no overtaking" signs are everywhere. See Appendix I.
- One-way systems are popular with the Spanish authorities. They are used at every opportunity.
- A qualification in rally driving would be helpful if you wish to access some areas without losing limbs and/or essential parts of your vehicle.
- See also Appendix II: 5 things you will notice on your journey from the airport.
