Widdecombe resigns as Widdecombe
28 Nov 2001
There was shock in the Conservative Party and a small teashop in Durham today, as Ann Widdecombe formally resigned from the post of Ann Widdecombe. The former Ms Widdecombe, who had held the post for much of her life, had been rumoured to be considering her resignation for some time, but friends say it still came as a shock to them.
Douglas Ramsbottom, a long-time friend who first met the now ex-Ms Widdecombe at a hotdog stand in the aforementioned cathedral town, told DeadBrain he was "surprised" at her decision. "I know she had been unhappy in her job, especially since Duncan Smith was elected, but I had no idea it would come to this," he told us.
It is not yet clear what the former Ms Widdecombe is planning to do now, but speculation is mounting that she may try to gain the job of William Hague, a position which has been left vacant since the general election.
Oi, down here!
