  Tributes paid to Byers
Tributes have continued to pour in for the former Beleaguered Transport Secretary Stephen Byers today. Respected world leaders and President Bush have commented on the "excellent work" Mr Byers did and what a success he made of the UK's transport system.

The Conservatives are putting pressure on the government to declare a national day of mourning following Mr Byers' resignation yesterday afternoon, while the Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign for a statue of Mr Byers to be erected "alongside Nelson" in Trafalgar Square, where suicidal members of his fan club gathered this morning.

Mr Byers had, it seems, reached worldwide fame, as a crowd of tearful Japanese tourists were observed taking pictures of his former department late this afternoon. Bouquets of flowers have been laid outside his constituency home on Tyneside, and a minute's silence was held in train stations across the country, albeit half an hour later than scheduled.

How cool is this?
