  Election Aftermath
The "entire nation" is in a state of panic today after far-right extremists won a "significant" number of seats at yesterday's local council elections. Labour won a total of 2402 seats, down 339 on the last election, while the Liberal Democrats increased their number of seats by 44 to 1262. Worryingly, though, 2006 seats went to the right-wing extremist Conservative Party, putting them in second place behind Labour.

Leading politicians from across the political spectrum have been out to condemn the result. Labour party chairman Charles Clarke said that the extremists were "tearing apart" the communities they targeted, while the Liberal Democrat Simon Hughes was observed close to tears.

Election Coverage Review
By Professor Gregory T Mullet (or someone who looked quite like him)
The BBC led the way as always in the coverage stakes, and managed to keep things interesting until I fell asleep at around 1.15. Quote of the night undoubtedly went to the Conservative MP David Amess. "We are by far the biggest party," he declared on the result in one council, where the Conservatives had won by two seats.

Meanwhile, voters across the UK were of course gagging for news of the elections at Edinburgh University. The BBC's analysts in a pub (seriously) in Edinburgh announced that the turnout was a mere 7% and then went on to discuss devolution in Scotland.

The highlight of the night, though, was of course Peter Snow. His graphics were by tradition dodgy, but he still put a great amount of effort into jumping around his virtual map. Snow watchers were a little disappointed at the lack of stairs, but felt that he made up for that by playing with his swingometer on several occasions.

Simon says look at this...
