| | Prezza's housing plan
18 Jul 2002
The Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott announced a new housing plan worth £1.1 billion today. Speaking in the Commons this afternoon, Mr Prescott told MPs and anyone watching on BBC Parliament about his plans.
"The House may be aware of my recent decision to leave the RMT rail union after almost half a century of membership," he said in a statement. "Unfortunately this means that I may lose my London residence, or face an increase in rent. As a result of this I have decided that the State should fund a new house for the office of Deputy Prime Minister. £1.1 billion should do it nicely thank you very much."
Mr Prescott's announcement may not have gone down very well, though, as preliminary figures show that the audience of BBC Parliament halved during the speech. In their defence, say the government, one person going to make a cup of tea does not constitute widespread dissent.
How cool is this?
