 Tories in shock revelation
The Conservative Party was once again reeling from a shock revelation today, after shadow cabinet member Alan Duncan told the world that he is gay. Although prejudice is still rife in some sections of the party, senior colleagues have provided encouragement. "I'm right behind him," said Deputy Leader Michael Ancram. "But obviously not in that way – what do you think I am, some sort of puff?"

Tabloid journalists, meanwhile, expressed "unadulterated glee" at Mr Duncan's announcement. "This is brilliant," giggled one Sun columnist. "We're always on the lookout for serious and important political stories and this is about as good as it gets."

Media analysts predict that headline writers will "have a field day" tomorrow, but probably not "a Clapham Common day", proving once and for all that media analysts do not have a sense of humour. Mr Duncan didn't do himself any favours this morning either, though, when he told the BBC's Guto Harri that he hoped his coming out would be "a small blow for freedom".

Labour and the Liberal Democrats are expected to respond with their own seasonal shockers tomorrow.

Wow, look at this!
