 Man completes 13-day detour
There was renewed criticism of Australian transport policy today, as it emerged that it has taken one man 13 days to travel a few miles across town. 58-year-old ex-stockbroker Steve Fossett had made two previous attempts to get across Adelaide but failed due to bad weather and equipment failure.

This time, however, the balloon Mr Fossett was travelling in took a 20,000-mile detour via South America and the Indian Ocean. Transport analysts have condemned the balloon's operator, Bud Light. "This is just ridiculous," said Professor Gregory T Mullet of Melbourne University. "Even Virgin trains don't take that long to go a few miles."

Mr Fossett is now recovering from his ordeal, but it is understood that he will have to make the journey again soon as he forgot his wallet.
