| | Tories propose "Paedophile TV"
18 Sep 2002
The Conservatives today unveiled new plans in the fight to protect children. In a speech earlier today, Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin said that paedophiles' movements should be tracked by satellite television. According to Mr Letwin, sex offenders would find it "much more difficult" to commit crimes if they were followed around 24 hours a day by a satellite television crew.
"There's a lot of crappy reality TV about at the moment," argued Mr Letwin. "Our new proposals would not only make the lives of countless children safer, but provide free mindless entertainment to the great unwashed public. You never know, we might uncover another 'Jade' like this."
Unsurprisingly, Mr Letwin's comments have attracted criticism. "The Tories' latest big idea is as ridiculous as the last one, whatever that was," said the Liberal Democrats' home affairs spokesman, Simon Hughes. "Never mind the obvious civil rights infringements, but we could all do without another Jade. This just goes to show how out of touch and potentially sick the Conservative Party has become."
Oi, down here!
