| | Thousands protest in London at pop group's treatment
22 Sep 2002
Thousands of demonstrators marched into London today in protest at the treatment of one of the country's least respected pop groups. The Liberty X Livelihood march set off this morning, quickly gaining huge numbers of fanatical followers. Organisers plan to present a petition to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, calling for increased revenue for the Pop Stars runners-up.
"The amount of money these almost talented individuals earn is appallingly low," shouted the protest's organiser, Douglas Ramsbottom, to a crowd in Parliament Square. "Compared to doctors, teachers, police officers and other vital public service workers, they could be getting as little as a hundred or a thousand times as much. This injustice must stop NOW! Give Liberty X more money!"
Police fear that participants in the rally could soon move onto more violent methods of showing their disapproval of the government's policy if they don't get their way. Some of the people planning to take part told DeadBrain yesterday that they "weren't afraid" of progressing to civil disobedience if government doesn't give Liberty X "generous benefits and tax breaks". It is thought that such actions could include the blockading of motorways, the picketing of Downing Street and "dying my hair pink and getting my nose pierced without asking my mum first".
So far, though, the Secretary of State for Pointless Pop Groups, Gregory T Mullet, has given no indication that he will give in to the protestors' demands.
Hey, look at this!
