EIDOS to launch football hooligan game
The computer games manufacturer, EIDOS, announced plans for a new football-related game today following England's 2-1 victory in Slovakia last night. The new game, provisionally entitled Championship Hooligan Manager 2003, will see players take on riot police, rival fans and psychotic security guards in an epic battle to cause as much trouble as possible.

Objects for collection
  • Traffic cones (1 point)
  • Dustbins (3 points)
  • Street café furniture (10 points)
  • Tickets for "home" section of ground (20 points)
  • Police helmet (50 points)
  • Police officer (100 points)
  • Hot dog stand (250 points)
  • Competitors will have to work against the clock to collect as many objects (see side panel) as possible while avoiding guard dogs, security guards, riot police and café owners who set out to disrupt their fun.

The FA has condemned the game as "irresponsible", but the football hooligans' union, FHUK, welcomes the release of the game. "I think it's an excellent idea," their spokesman told our man in the stab vest. "We've always suffered from having a pretty bad public image, but hopefully this game will show the human side of our members, and the insides of their opponents."

Plans to produce versions of the game to be sold in other European countries have, however, had to be abandoned. "Your average Belgian football hooligan's idea of causing trouble is spilling his half-time drink over the man sitting next to him," explained Douglas Ramsbottom, lead developer for EIDOS. "That's not a good basis for a game."

    How cool is this?
