Tory leader in greatest Briton disappointment
21 Oct 2002
The Conservative "leader", Iain Duncan Smith, has expressed his disappointment at a new poll conducted by the BBC. People across the country voted for their greatest Briton of all time, with answers ranging from Winston Churchill to John Lennon. Surprisingly, though, Mr Duncan Smith did not receive a single vote.
A spokesman for the popular Tory leader told of his sadness at the result this afternoon. "Iain feels that it is a great shame that he wasn't voted the greatest Briton of all time, especially after all the good work he has done over the last year," he told journalists in St Paul's Cathedral. "Naturally he is feeling more than a little upset that he didn't get a single vote, but I'm sure he will recover. Perhaps if the BBC runs this again next year he will have made some progress by then."
It is not yet clear whether Mr Duncan Smith voted in the poll.
