| | Horror at Archer's book plans
6 Oct 2002
The general public reacted with "absolute horror" last night to news that Lord Archer is to publish his prison diaries. Archer, who is currently serving time for "being a lying bastard", wants to print an account of his time at the high-security Belmarsh jail in London, but his potential audience is angry.
"We can't let Archer publish this book," protested Gregory T Mullet, a retired gardener from Dorset. "Doesn't he think we've suffered enough? He has to be stopped!" Others were equally annoyed at Archer's publishers, MacMillan, with comments ranging from "No, please no!" to "Arrghh not again!"
Fortunately, prison officials may come to their rescue. Under prison rules, Archer is banned from publishing anything that personally identifies the poor bastards locked up with him. He could now face a longer sentence if his book is found to break the rules, which according to literary critic Douglas Ramsbottom would be "just reward" for making him sit through it.
Go on, have a look at this...
