Minister quits over BNP "fire-fighting" row
A Scottish minister resigned today after reportedly calling members of the British National Party "fire-fighting bastards". According to a Sunday newspaper, Gregory T McMullet, the minister responsible for fishing holidays, made the comparison at a dinner party last week.

The far right-wing BNP immediately denied any claims that it fought fires. "We have no intention of putting out fires," said spokesman Adolf Ramsbottom. "What do you think we are, the army? If anything we start the fires, but if you think you're ever going to prove that you've got another thing coming."

Speaking after he handed in his letter of resignation, Mr McMullet told journalists that he "definitely did not" call fascists fire-fighters, but for the sake of solving the fire strike he would step down. Meanwhile the position of another Scottish MP who accused the Labour party of being "socialist" is looking shaky.
