| | Gay Tories get "official recognition", hats, badges
10 Dec 2002
Homosexual members of the Conservative Party today expressed concern at a decision to give them "official recognition". In a move that will be officially announced in the New Year, gay Tories will be forced to wear "large, pink, cone-shaped hats", badges and "frilly cuffs like Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen" so that heterosexual members can "recognise" them.
A spokesman for Torch, a group that campaigns for equality for Conservatives, said he was "angry" that gay Tories would be forced to wear hats and badges identifying them. "It stinks of Nazism," he said this morning. "But on the upside the frilly cuffs will make us look ridiculous, which can only help in our fight to make us equal to the party's leadership."
Earlier this year shadow cabinet member John Bercow resigned when Iain Duncan Smith attempted to force MPs to vote against removing the ban on Conservatives adopting gays, but it is not thought that the leader will lose any more of his team this time around. The entire shadow cabinet and Michael Portillo were unavailable for comment.
How cool is this?
