Website loses own contest to ineligible rival
Representatives of the popular news satire website DeadBrain today expressed their disappointment at not winning the site's own "best satirical news" award. In a hard-fought contest in which they were the only entrants, the website lost by a massive 4.5 billion votes to 3, with 1 spoilt ballot paper. The surprise victors were rivals the Borowitz Report, who experts say secured a convincing win by persuading every resident of the United States to vote within the first half hour of the polls opening.

A spokesman for DeadBrain told DeadBrain that he was "disappointed" the website didn't win. "Even though we were the only website entered for the award, we put a lot of hard work into running the campaign to win it," he said, "so naturally we expected a clear victory. But unfortunately it wasn't to be. There's always next year, I suppose."

Meanwhile lawyers for the losing website are considering demanding a recount of votes cast in Florida after alleged discrepancies were discovered there. According to Douglas Ramsbottom, the e-returning officer for the state, his staff became suspicious when over half a million votes were cast from the same computer within the space of 20 minutes. However, a spokesman for the polling website responsible for counting the votes said that such a pattern of voting was "entirely normal" and no investigation would be carried out.

Nobody from the Borowitz Report was available in the DeadBrain office to comment.

Please vote for our friends theSchmews in the real poll, which is taking place here
