Dubya's War

Bush declines to appear on Weakest Link with Saddam
Saddam Hussein has invited President Bush to join him on television game show The Weakest Link in a final attempt to avoid war. The popular programme, fronted by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan Robinson, features contestants answering a series of questions, with the one seen as the weakest voted off at the end of each round.

Speaking during a live television interview with PBS, Saddam warned that he was "ready to prove" he is the strongest link, even in front of a live studio audience in Baghdad. It's thought that the Iraqi dictator would like other world leaders to join him and President Bush on the programme, including Tony Blair, Vladimir Putin and his "entire army of doubles, just to even things up a bit".

However, the White House declined Saddam Hussein's offer. President Bush's official spokesman, Ari Fleischer, told journalists that there was no question of him travelling to Baghdad to take part in a game show for reasons of safety. "This show is a battle of wits and intelligence," he explained. "It would not be fair for Saddam Hussein to fight an unarmed man."

Meanwhile, an attempt by the BBC to revive 90s game show Treasure Hunt in the Iraqi desert with the UN weapons inspectors as contestants has failed.
