Shock and awe display not that shocking or awe-inspiring

War observers have reacted with disappointment today after last night's raid on Iraq by American missiles. US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld had promised a display of firepower that would "shock and awe" the Iraqis into submission, but in the event only a few missiles were fired at selected targets with little effect.
"It was a big disappointment to me," said armchair general Douglas Ramsbottom in Swindon Central Command. "I was hoping for a bit of bang for their buck, but all we got were a few flashes and a bit of fire. I've seen better displays on bonfire night."
Britain's Defence Secretary, Geoff "Buff" Hoon, has meanwhile told viewers to "stay tuned", promising that there is "more to come".
