| | Audley Harrison to fight Michael Watson
19 Apr 2003 by Flash Gorman
Boxing pundits the world over have raised a chorus of disapproval over Audley Harrison's latest bout proposal. In an attempt to gain credibility after a series of lack-lustre fights, Harrison is seeking to arrange a fight with badly-injured ex-champion Michael Watson.
Harrison has singularly failed to set the boxing world alight since turning professional in 2001. In order to maximise his chances of victory, the Olympic star has, rather cunningly, only fought people with absolutely no chance whatsoever of beating him. Because of this, his attempt to share in the glory of the more illustrious Watson has attracted criticism.
"It's a disgrace," fumed promoter Frank Warren. "It's a totally unfair fight and Audley's management should have known better that to get him involved. Audley may be badly injured or even, god forbid, killed. He's just not ready to fight anyone who may be able to throw a punch in his general direction."
If it does go ahead, the Watson/Harrison fight will take place near the end of what will be a busy year for the dapper-haired Harrison. He is already down to fight loveable pantomime star Frank Bruno and is also considering a bout with Widow Twanky.
Go on, have a look at this...
