People to be charged for talking about Beckham in public
A leaked document today outlined far-reaching new proposals that may affect the way in which we discuss David Beckham in the future. The document, found on a petrol station forecourt by our man with the empty tank, indicates that any discussions on any subject relating to the England captain may well be charged for based on the subject and duration of the "chat".

Beckham's representatives propose that blocks of chat time may be purchased quickly and easily by phone, text message or online. An annual subscription will also be made available, which would include a downloadable ring tone and a 2% discount on Beckham-sponsored goods including Vodafone, M&S and Pepsi.

The document says that many people discuss Beckham in "pubs, cinemas, fast food outlets and on the high street" but at present these "discussions" or "debates" are carried out free of charge. "Talking about Beckham is an aspect of his image rights portfolio that at present remains un-metered but this cannot continue indefinitely," the document concluded.

It was unclear at this stage what penalties may exist for talking about Beckham without the appropriate purchase of "talk time", but it is thought that future infringement may well lead to a reduction in the value of endowment policies, a reduced ability to obtain personal credit and in extreme cases loss of voting privilege.

The Daily Mail has reportedly recruited additional staff to cope with the impending crisis.
