Visitors criticise lack of rides at arms fair
9 Sep 2003 by Flash Gorman
Visitors to today's international arms fair in London have been less than impressed with the attractions on offer. Dave Sedgwick from Chiswick echoed the feelings of many of his fellow visitors:
"Its been a complete disappointment," Mr Sedgwick told DeadBrain. "I was in town with the wife and kids and saw the notice for a fair and thought 'why not'. It cost us £25 each to get in and for what? There's no rides and you aren't even allowed to press the buttons on the missiles and stuff. Admittedly my youngest was chuffed when he won a Kalashnikov on the coconut shy but other than that it's been a dead loss."
Mr Sedgwick was also keen to point out the exorbitant cost of some of the items at the Fair. "They're punting out Stealth Bombers at a billion dollars each! I mean who's got that sort of cash to spare? Even the ordinary fighters are twenty million a piece, which is just taking the piss."
The Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon, was quick to defend the show, pointing out that many "stocking filler" items were available. "I myself managed to get an electric torture baton for fifty nicker," he said. "It’s British-made too, none of your foreign tat."
Mr Hoon continued his spirited defence of the fair by highlighting the vast amounts of money that the arms trade brings into Britain. "The arms trade brings over 5 billion a year into the economy and the best part is that no one gets hurt by it," he beamed. "Apart, obviously, from the millions of people injured in armed conflicts around the world every year."
How cool is this?
