Segway issues product recall over stupidity risk
Segway has issued a product recall notice for all of its personal transporters because there is a danger that some riders will look stupid. According to a statement on the company's website, "Under certain operating conditions, particularly when the rider is in a public place, some Segway HTs may make the rider look stupid. This can happen if the rider is seen doing anything with a Segway, especially riding it."

The company says it has received three reports of people looking stupid while riding a Segway. "It is possible that other riders may be affected too and have no idea about it," said company spokesman Gregory T Mullet-Beard. "That's why we have issued this recall, so we can stop this from happening again."

Riders have been instructed not to use their Segways and return them to the company immediately to avoid looking stupid. It is not yet clear what will need to be done to Segways to prevent this fault from occurring again, but it is thought that "breaking them up into tiny pieces" is the favourite option.

A White House spokesman commented: "Perhaps this fault doesn't relate to all models. President Bush has been an avid user of his Segway and we're not aware of him ever looking stupid."
