  Robbie Williams to split up
Pop music's catatonic clown prince, Robbie Williams, has announced today that he is splitting up. This is due, Williams said, "to irreconcilable personal and artistic differences between myself and the rest of myself."

Shocked fans listened to the announcement in a bizarre interview Williams gave to legendary Capital Radio DJ, Dr Douglas Ramsbottom (aka – Dr Sheepsarse).

Williams, 29, was in London to promote his new single – Let Me Dent and Maim You – a reworking of one of his biggest hits. The video shows Williams acting out scenes of vengeance on himself.

The single, which only entered the chart at number 13, was not a catalyst to the break-up, Williams stressed. However, some of the lyrics suggest otherwise:

Stop playing the fool
No, you stop it
Get off my back
Stop singing that pap

"It's like my Let It Be...but on a single," Williams said. "You can hear me arguing with other members of myself."

"The tension was getting unbearable," he admitted. "I recorded the track on the roof of my Mum's carport in Stoke on Trent."

Weeping music fanatic Georgina Turner-Potts, 35, said: "I can't believe it." Echoing the sentiment of huge swathes of Middle England, she confessed: "I don't know what to do, I mean, I've only got Morcheeba, David Gray and Travis to listen to now. They wont last a full dinner party."

DJ Dr Sheepsarse also quizzed Williams on whether he could see himself making up with other members of himself and writing with himself again in the future.

"I don't know. Yes I do. Never say never. Never. It's out of my hands. It's in my hands. You'll have to ask other members of myself," said the confused pop star.

Later on, when Williams spoke to DeadBrain's showbiz reporter, Gregory T Mullet, he said: "This is the first I've heard of a split, no one's told me. Where am I? And who is Bobbie Willheims anyway?"

Other members of himself were unavailable for comment, but they are rumoured to be in talks with Ben Elton, who is known to be interested in writing a musical based on Williams' life.

His record company, EMI, have announced that a Greatest Hits album will be released before Christmas. The album, titled Sling (your hook) While You're Winning, will include three previously unreleased tracks – The Long and Whining Ode, Mud on the Fax and Wild Porpoises.
