Bush state visit: Dubya's diary - day four
22 Nov 2003 by Malcolm Drury
President Bush and his wife left Buckingham Palace on Friday morning, so our usual source of the verbatim transcripts of his daily journal was unable to provide one for the last day of the Great Visit. Our thanks go to His Royal Highness for his efforts over the first three days.
As a service to our readers, DeadBrain has gone to extraordinary lengths, and, indeed, expense, to obtain a transcript of Mr. Bush's final notes on his visit. We cannot reveal our source, as doing so would compromise a very senior member of the President's cabinet who has threatened to blast us to Hell and back if we reveal his name.
Didn't sleep well, feeling a bit sick after learning that what I'd thunk was a Limey rabbit that we barbecued was actually a corgi. Had to get up for a wizz in the middle of the night. Got lost again in the corridors and ended up waking the dogs. I could hear Queen in her room in a flap trying to shut them all up. Didn't think she would cuss like that. I just snuck away. I think I might have upset her.
Up early. Went down to breakfast but only managed a bit of dry toast. Nobody speaking much. Dook of Ellington seemed fairly frendly - smiled and asked me if I'd had a lobotammy. Told him not that I knew of but I did have a gerbil when I was a kid. Queen looked definitely frosty, just sat there feeding toast and marmelade to the corgis that were left.
After breakfast, went to pack. Laura said was it OK to take the little bars of soap as a sooveneer. I said yeah, that was expected, and throw in the shower cap, but leave the towels and ashtray.
Said goodbye to Queen, Dook and the Prince of Charles and thanked them for having us. Said we should do this again some time. Queen didn't say anything, just bit her lip. The Prince of Charles gave us a couple of jars of organic honey but one of the security guys took them and said they would have to be checked to make sure they weren't booby trapped. They always do that and I never see the stuff again.
Flew up to the north of the U of K to visit Terry Blair's home. Had lunch in a pub with Terry and Sherry. She's a foxy lady. Bet she doesn't get a lot of headaches. Thought she was playing kneesy with me under the table but it turned out to be one of the security guys who had dropped his fork. He'd better keep his mouth good and shut or it's a one-way trip to Cuba.
Still feeling a bit queezy but managed a plate of fish and chips. Didn't choke but dipped end of tie in ketchup. Don't really drink no more but had a sip of warm Limey beer just to be soshable. I don't know how they can drink it, there's no fizz in it at all.
Chatted to some of the locals but couldn't understand a word they said. Sheesh, I wish they spoke proper American. One of them came up to me carrying some darts but one of our security guys shot him before he got too close. Seems he just wanted a game. Luckily he was only wounded. Not sure how we'll cover that one up but Terry said not to worry, he'd take care of it, it wouldn't be reported in the press. Don't know how he does it, must get Ashcroft to give him a call to get a few tips.
Quick visit to a school of some sort then said goodbye to Terry and Sherry and thanked Terry again for all his good work.
Nice to back on board Air Force One. I'll be glad to get back to find out what Donny's been up to. I wasn't able to get him on the phone, and there was nothing on Limey TV about him. They didn't have satellite at Buckingham Castle so I couldn't get Fox News or even CNN. He'd better not have invaded anybody without my say-so.
Thanked the security guys then went into the private suite, but Laura said she still had a headache so decided just to have a nap. Couldn't stop thinking about Sherry. Darn.
