Letter: I gave homeless Blair my last 10p1 Mar 2004 by georgethetee
Those cynics who regard Tony Blair's claim to have slept homeless on a park bench as a desperate piece of spin should think again. I remember a lean, dishevelled young man I met on a Hyde Park bench relating to me his pitiful tale of failed auditions, buckled tremolo arms and microphone feedback.
He had the most sincere, winning smile and he soon convinced me that making over the freehold of my house to him was the right thing to do. I was most affected by the hideous vichey souesse stains and the spilt caviar on his Armani suit and forced upon him all the change I had in my pocket - to my eternal shame, only 10p. Tragically, when I found a phonebox to arrange the house transfer, I had no coin to make my call. It haunts me to this day. - Anon.
