Blair in outburst on live television

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, today astounded the nation with an outburst live on daytime television.

It was when asked what he thought of the Conservatives' decision to pull out of the Butler WMD inquiry that Mr Blair lost his cool. Initially, the PM seemed to be formulating his response. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and turned to the reporter, Douglas Ramsbottom.

At this point, viewers were no doubt expecting to hear a bon mot or see a cheesy smile. Instead, Mr Blair spun round to the camera and cried: "You know, what's the bloody point? I give up. I truly do! I invite the Lib Dems to my party and they say they can't be arsed. So I invite the Tories and what do they do? They tell me if the Libs aren't going then neither are they! Well, this is what I say. The lot of them can go and-"

Nobody is quite sure what Mr Blair said next, as there was a technical fault at that precise moment. Both video and audio commentary were lost and viewers were returned to the Richard and Judy TV studio, where the couple swiftly moved on to an item about mutant cauliflowers.

The consequences of the PM's outburst are likely to be far-reaching. Already, it is believed the incident has caused two deaths.

The first was that of Mr Williams, a 5-year-old African Grey parrot owned by pensioner Gregory Mullet of Brighton, which fell of its perch while watching the PM on TV. The second, as yet unconfirmed, was that of Gerry the Gerbil, a lifelong fan of Judy Finnigan owned by Lucy Locket, aged 7 of Newcastle. Little Lucy is said to be distraught at the loss, and is considering voting Tory when she grows up.

Downing Street had little to say about the outburst, other than that Mr Blair has been under a lot of pressure lately.
