Kilroy-Silk to split up

Robert Kilroy-Silk, former chat show host, UKIP MEP and founder and leader of Britain's newest political party, Veritas, is to split up with himself, DeadBrain has learned.

Mr Kilroy-Silk founded Veritas after leaving UKIP last week. He had initially attempted to form a new party jointly with the current interim leader of the Conservative Party, Michael Howard. However that union fell apart after only two days when Mr Kilroy-Silk left, citing irreconcilable differences.

Mr Kilroy-Silk made the surprise announcement at a press conference at Veritas's party headquarters, the back table at Mario's Pizzeria in Bootle, earlier today.

He said that he had been unable to agree with himself over his platform for Veritas, which, though still to be fully developed, focuses heavily on defending Britain against asylum-seekers, immigration, multiculturalism, Europe, pasteurised milk, badgers, fluoridisation and the BBC.

"I wanted to push all the elements of the platform," he said, "but I could not agree with myself as to which were the most important, and frankly I have had enough of the bickering between myself. Therefore it is with regret that I announce that I am to split up. Obviously that means I cannot stay on as leader of Veritas and as I can't bear being second fiddle, I am leaving the party effective immediately."

He added that he would now be taking a break from public life to consider his future. When asked, he refused to state categorically that he would not be attempting to form another new political party in the future, or even taking a shot at the leadership of the Conservative Party when Mr Howard's term as interim leader is up.

Pending a leadership contest for Veritas former UKIP member Damien Hockney, currently the party's only other member, will take over the reins. He told reporters that while he was personally devastated and deeply saddened by Mr Kilroy-Silk's decision to leave, for the good of the party it was time to move on. "My aim is to triple the number of members before the general election," he said. Mr Hockney praised Mr Kilroy-Silk's leadership of Veritas, saying that in the short time at its head he had built it up to be a force to be reckoned with.

In related news Douglas Ramsbottom, spokesman for tanning salon chain Wiburnia, told reporters that there is no truth in a rumour that the chain is to employ Mr Kilroy-Silk to make a series of television advertisements. "We did consider it," he said, "but we decided that Mr Kilroy-Silk's skin tonal properties are not indicative of the quality of our product."
