DeadBrain on reduced service during 24-hour strike

DeadBrain is running a reduced service today as its staff take part in a twenty-four hour strike.

The stoppage is in protest against a management decision to save money by eliminating one job - fetching the pizza - and replacing it with privatised pizza delivery.

Douglas Ramsbottom, spokesman for the British Association of Satirists, Taunters, Allegorists, Ridiculers, Deriders and Spoofers (BASTARDS), said that the job cut was completely unwarranted.

"It's Brenda's job to fetch the pizza," he said, "We don't want it delivered by some acne-covered kid with rings in his nose."

As a result of the strike DeadBrain is today using pre-recorded satire. In addition, normal editing standerds may no be fully acheived.

Gregory T. Mullet, DeadBrain's Editor-in-Chief, apologised for the disruption and expressed his hope that cooler heads would soon prevail and that the issue could be settled satisfactorily. However, he said that he was not prepared to back down. "From now on, we'll have pizzas delivered," he said. He added that he thought the cut and today's disruption were a "price worth paying to secure a strong DeadBrain in the long term".

"I believe what matters most of all is we have a strong independent DeadBrain in the future," he said.

In a surprise show of solidarity up to 11,000 BBC employees involved in news and live programmes have given their support to DeadBrain by also going on strike for the day. Three unions - Bectu, the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Amicus - are supporting BASTARDS.

"That's wonderful," said Mr Ramsbottom, "just what we'd expect from our brothers and sisters in the other unions. And they know we'd do the same for them."
