Disappointment as Norton and Ross are promised for Live 8 coverage
2 Jun 2005
Organisers of the BBC's Live 8 concert coverage have announced their plans to the disappointment of many viewers. Despite promising an ambitious broadcast from Hyde Park, the BBC has said that Jonathan Ross will be hosting the event for television. Worse still, Graham Norton will be reporting from a parallel American event.
"That was really the straw that broke the licence fee payer's back," said Brenda Shuttleworth, a self-appointed TV critic from Grimsby. "Yes, this is a wonderful and important event for a good cause, but Ross and Norton just annoy the pants off me. Everyone I know says the same."
Despite suggestions that the BBC may offer a red button opt-out for viewers who dislike the pair, Mrs Shuttleworth said that she would not be watching "just in case their annoying little faces show up" on her screen.
More worryingly, rumours are also circulating that a role may be found at the concert for occasional BBC Breakfast host, regular dancing queen and omnipresent advert for Max Factor Natasha Kaplinsky. A BBC source told DeadBrain that as yet none of the managers had come up with an excuse to dispatch Ms Kaplinksky to the event, but a task force had been formed and he couldn't rule out the possibility that she would show up somewhere.
