Prescott wows tourists
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott yesterday wowed a holidaying family when he invited them to look around the corridors of power in 10 Downing Street.
The family, later named by the media as the 'Blairs', ran into Prescott as he took a surprise break from his Jaguar in Whitehall. The family were said to be delighted at having the opportunity to see the inside of Downing Street during their annual holiday away from their rented Sicilian palace.
Head of the family Tony was shocked at having the opportunity to look around the historic address: "I was totally taken aback - I thought he was joking at first, and then I thought maybe he only meant the kids, but it was all of us.
"It was a really pleasant surprise and they loved it, it was certainly a good holiday highlight.
"I don't think they realise the importance of what takes place there but they will in the future and they'll remember it forever."
Following a 15-minute tour, Prescott ushered the family out before returning to a high-level meeting to discuss the whereabouts of the rest of the cabinet.
