Hearts and Hibs plan move to Premiership
Heart of Midlothian chairman Lord Foulkes of Cumnock yesterday announced that talks were underway for both his own club and city rivals Hibernian FC to join the FA Premiership next season.
"We feel that Scottish football is no longer providing us with the sort of competition that our fans expect," he said at a press conference yesterday. "If we're ever going to progress in Europe we need to be playing big games week in, week out".
Speaking exclusively on the phone to DeadBrain, Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray said: "We just don't feel pushed by the competition up here any more. We won at 3-0 at Ibrox in second gear, and even Celtic have really been struggling against us recently."
Foulkes added: "We really hope that a move to the Premiership will benefit the whole of Scottish football, as with us gone the rest of the teams will be on more of a level playing field."
Under-fire Rangers boss Alex McLeish, when asked for a soundbite after his team's 1-1 draw with newly-promoted minnows Falkirk, refused to comment, but was later heard mumbling something about "arrogant gits".
Good Will Hunting star Ben Affleck was unavailable for comment.
