Wayne Rooney nets £5m book deal
Footballer Wayne Rooney has netted a £5m book deal with publisher HarperCollins. The first volume of Rooney's autobiography - up to and including this year's World Cup - is due to hit bookshelves in July. Follow-up books over the next 12 years will cover the rest of Rooney's playing career.
Greg Mullet of HarperCollins said: "This represents both an opportunity and a challenge for HarperCollins but we are looking forward to the results. There were a few teething problems with Wayne's first 300 page submission, when after removing the expletives we were left with just a few pages containing: 'xxxx off this book belongs to Wayne'. However, we are optimistic that Wayne will be writing with a pen by the end of the year instead of a crayon, and who knows, he may even be doing joined up writing in a few years."
Doug Ramsbottom of Waterstones, a chain of bookstores that will sell the book, said: "This book deal will be welcome news to thousands of 'join the dots' and colouring book fanatics all over the UK. There is likely to be a bit of everything for everyone, including sections on: getting money out of your electricity meter; how to hot wire cars; and even a section on Britain's best 'grab a Granny venues' with advice on how to turn on old slappers."
Wayne, whose favourite book is the 2004 Beano annual, said: "Dis is XXXXXXX great dis is. I really XXXXXXX want to XXXXXXX write these XXXXXXX books. There will be a few XXXXXXX surprises in these XXXXXXX books, including quite a few XXXXXXX pop ups of cars, and XXXXXXX footballs. There will be about eight chapters all about XXXXXXX referees. I've been in XXXXXXX training for writing by trying to get my XXXXXXX head around the XXXXXXX Sun crossword, which I did in a record 5 days and 14 hours dis XXXXXXX week."
